Israel
Israel is located on the southeastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea and the shore of the Red Sea to the north. It has borders with Lebanon to the north, Syria to the northeast, Jordan on the east, the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and Gaza Strip to the east and west, respectively, and Egypt to the southwest.
Temperatures in Israel vary widely, especially during the winter. Coastal areas, such as those of Tel Aviv and Haifa, have a typical Mediterranean climate with cool, rainy winters and long, hot summers.
Israel has only one official language, Hebrew. Arabic had been an official language of the State of Israel too, and there are many languages of immigrant diasporas.
Tourism, especially religious tourism, is an important industry in Israel, with the country's temperate climate, beaches, archaeological, other historical and biblical sites, and unique geography drawing in visitors.
More than 3,000 start-ups have been launched in Israel and, in 2009, $1.12 billion in capital was brought in by 447 Israeli high-tech companies. Being at the cutting edge of some of the best internet technologies in the world, Israel looks towards the brightest new companies that are the biggest players on the web to stay in trend.
